GED Program
The General Educational Development (GED) program is an alternative for earning a South Carolina High School credential. This program is for adults who have not completed the unit requirements for a high school diploma.
Our Adult Learning Center will pay
the GED testing fee ($80)
for students who meet our requirements!
GED preparation classes are offered throughout the county, and because each student has an individual learning plan, time in class is kept to a minimum.
The SC Department of Education issues a high school equivalency diploma when a person passes each of the five test areas with a minimum score of 410 and a total score of 2250. Students who earn a GED credential are eligible to participate in our annual graduation exercise.
It is important to know that the GED test is “normed” on graduating high school seniors, and the passing score is set where only 60% of them pass the test.
All students wishing to enter a GED preparation class are required to complete an initial assessment (link to assessment schedule) and attend an orientation session before beginning class.
Classes are offered both day and evening, and at locations throughout the county.
Fast Track GED Class
Students who score particularly well on the initial assessment are encouraged to attend our Fast Track class. This is a comprehensive, fast-paced orientation to the GED test. Students who successfully complete this course typically perform well when they take the GED test.
